On newer mobile devices, there is a setting that randomizes the MAC address of the device before connecting to the network. This feature can cause problems on the campus Wi-Fi, as we register the device’s MAC address so it can connect. This article gives general instructions on how to turn this setting off for an individual network.

Note: Due to multiple versions of available operating systems, these directions may vary for your device.

For iOS devices

  1. Open the Settings app

  2. Tap Wi-Fi

  3. Tap the blue “i” next to the CUNESecure or CUNE network (the one you are connected to)

  4. Find Private Wi-Fi Address and make sure the toggle is off
  5. Reconnect to the network if prompted

On Android devices

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap Connections (or Network & internet)

  3. Select Wi-Fi (or Internet)

  4. Tap the gear next to the CUNESecure or CUNE network (the one you are connected to)

  5. For MAC address type (or Privacy), select Phone MAC (or Use device MAC)
  6. Reconnect to the network if prompted

Additional Notes

  • If you have registered your device with a randomized MAC address, you will have to re-register it using the phone/device/static MAC address

  • [Students only] If you have 8 devices registered already and need one or more devices removed, you can submit a ticket to Helpdesk for assistance
