Concordia manages a number of email distribution lists to facilitate communication among members of our community. This article describes how these lists are used and managed.
Notes & Definitions
- Owners: The owner of the list can request changes to the recipients, senders, and the level of moderation of each list.
- Senders: The list of user accounts which are able to send messages to the list without moderation
- Moderated: An email sent to a moderated list will be delivered first to the list’s moderators. Any of the Moderators of the list can approve or reject the message. The message will not be delivered to the recipients until a moderator has approved the message.
- Opt-out: Lists ending with “chat” are for general use. Recipients are allowed to opt-out of these lists. Therefore, official university messaging should be sent via lists that do not end in “chat”. Requests to opt-out of any list should be submitted via helpdesk.
- Updates: Currently all lists are updated manually (more often at the beginning of semesters and less often otherwise). The determination of who is on each list is based on individual’s status in Banner as a Faculty, Staff, etc. Plans are underway to automate this process for more frequent updates.
- Exceptions: A list owner can request exception recipients to be added to the list. List owners can also request exceptions to the list of “Senders” who are able to send messages to the list.
